ABOUT SESAMOIDITIS

Sesamoiditis is a general description for any irritation of the Sesamoid bones.

These bones actually lie within the tendons that run to the big toe and can become swollen in response to increased physical activity levels.

Dancing and sports that involve running are common causes as these place stress on the ball of the foot.

WHAT ARE THE EXACT SYMPTOMS?

Mild ache underneath the big toe joint and the ball of the foot where tendons connect to the big toe.

Onset of the condition is usually fairly gradual, developing from a mild ache to sharp, throbbing pain, often as activity levels are stepped up.

Bruising and discolouration are not usually evident.

ANTI-PRONATION INSOLES

Anti-Pronation insoles control the motion of the foot and keep pressure off the ball of the foot and big toe, helping to relieve pressure as the symptoms subside.

It is generally recommended that the activity levels at fault are reduced during healing.
