Understanding Sever's Disease
 
Sever’s Disease (also known as calcaneal apophysitis) is one of the most common causes of heel pain in active children, particularly during growth spurts.
 
It develops when repeated impact and strain from the Achilles tendon irritate the heel’s growth plate.
 
Overpronation (excessive inward rolling of the foot) increases this strain.
 
Symptoms typically include pain at the back or underside of the heel, which worsens with activity and improves with rest.
 
It isn't uncommon for active, growing children to also develop Osgood Schlatter Disease.
